Vision & Values
Our vision and values
After a wide ranging consultation that included children, families and staff, it was agreed that our school values statement was based upon the three values – honesty, kindness and respect. These 3 values underpin our school vision.
Schools of Sanctuary
Wensum Junior School is very proud to say that, following our reapplication, we have maintained our School of Sanctuary status.
As a School of Sanctuary, Wensum is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all, especially those seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a place of safety.
We aim to help children, staff and the wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and we extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. We are a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.
There are three simple principles to being a School of Sanctuary:
1. LEARN about what it means to be seeking sanctuary.
2. TAKE POSITIVE ACTION to embed concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion within school and the wider community.
3. SHARE your vision and achievements – be proud!
For Wensum, these ideas are underpinned by our core values of ‘Honesty, Kindness and Respect’ Our curriculum approach, including REAL projects which seeks to encompass the principles and values of global citizenship, along with the Norwich 2040 vision of creating a ‘Fair’ city, ensures that the principles of Schools of Sanctuary are part of everything we do.
We celebrate our diversity and we are proud of all the cultures which make up our school community. We provide a welcoming environment for all of our children. Our learning environment promotes equal opportunities for all.
We aim to educate our children, staff and community on wider issues; dispelling negative myths around asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. Through this, we promote social cohesion and address ideas around Human Rights and social justice, empathising with others and sharing what we have built together.
Our School of Sanctuary aims and values links closely to our vision and values. All of these links help us all to have our voice heard and promote active citizenship. We would welcome any suggestions or ideas parents may have to support us.
